Orbiting a Dead Star

Per la prima volta è stato individuato un pianeta che orbita intorno ad una stella morta... WD J0914 è una nana bianca, quello che anche il nostro Sole diventerà tra circa 5 miliardi di anni. È ciò che rimane di una stella che ha esaurito il proprio carburante, si è trasformata in una gigante rossa e poi si è ridotta fino a che è rimasto solo il core, la nana bianca appunto. Finora non erano mai stati trovati pianeti in orbita intorno a queste stelle, anche perché la gigante rossa si espande fino ad includere, e quindi a distruggere, la maggior parte dei pianeti del suo sistema... la cosa ancora più strana è che il pianeta orbita in soli 10 giorni, per cui è nella zona che dovrebbe essere stata distrutta, per cui gli scienziati pensano che in qualche modo si sia avvicinato alla stella solo recentemente!

So far no planets have ever been found in orbit around these stars, also because the red giant expands to include, and therefore to destroy, most of the planets in its system... the strangest thing is that this planet orbits in just 10 days, so it is in the area that should have been destroyed, so scientists think that somehow it has only recently moved closer to the star!
