Water in Space

Un gruppo di scienziati dell'University College London del Regno Unito, utilizzando dati generati dal telescopio spaziale Hubble, ha trovato segni dell'esistenza di vapore acqueo nell'atmosfera del pianeta K2-18b, un esopianeta che orbita intorno ad una nana rossa a circa 110 anni luce dalla Terra.
È la prima volta che viene individuato vapore acqueo su un pianeta diverso dal nostro, e che perdipiù si triva nella "zona abitabile"... se non fosse che è 8 volte più grande della Terra, e quindi con una gravità più elevata, ed esposto a radiazioni ad alta energia per via della stella attorno a cui orbita, ci si potrebbe fare un pensierino...

A group of scientists from the University College London in the United Kingdom, using data generated by the Hubble space telescope, found hints of the existence of water vapour in the atmosphere of the planet K2-18b, an exoplanet orbiting around a red dwarf around 110 light-years away from Earth.
It is the first time that water vapor has been detected on a planet different from ours, and that, additionally, is in the "habitable zone"... if not for the fact that it is 8 times larger than the Earth, and therefore with a higher gravity, and exposed to high energy radiation due to the star around which it orbits, we might think about it...
