A Football Planet

No, non è un pianeta dove si gioca sempre a football (americano), ma un pianeta con una forma allungata, che ricorda un po' quella della palla ovale... si chiama WASP-121b ed è a 900 anni luce dalla Terra. La sua strana forma è dovuta al fatto che è così vicino alla stella attorno a cui orbita, che le forze gravitazionali lo deformano; questa vicinanza fa sì che la temperatura della sua atmosfera superiore sia di oltre 2.500°C!
Scoperto da Hubble, sarà studiato meglio dal prossimo telescopio spaziale: il James Webb Space Telescope...

No, it is not a planet where football is played continuously, but a planet with an elongated shape, which is somewhat reminiscent of that of an oval ball... it is called WASP-121b and is 900 light-years from Earth. Its strange shape is due to the fact that it is so close to the star around which it orbits, that the gravitational forces deform it; this closeness means that the temperature of its upper atmosphere is around 4,600 degrees Fahrenheit!
Discovered by Hubble, it will be better studied by the next space telescope: the James Webb Space Telescope...
