Mimicking Nature

La natura ha sempre molto da insegnarci, anche nel campo della robotica. Un gruppo di ricercatori del Max Planck Institute ha costruito un robot che assomiglia ad una medusa, con otto braccia e molti giunti indipendenti: questo robot può compiere movimenti anche complicati, afferrare oggetti e persino nascondersi tra la sabbia del fondo... L'unico problema, al momento, è che necessita di un campo magnetico che lo circonda e che varia per fargli effettuare i movimenti...

Nature always has a lot to teach us, even in the field of robotics. A group of researchers from the Max Planck Institute built a robot that looks like a jellyfish, with eight arms and many independent joints: this robot can make very complicated movements, grab objects and even hide in the bottom sand... The only problem at the moment is that it requires a magnetic field all around it that varies to make it perform the movements...
