Alle 15:17:40 (ora di Houston) del 20 luglio 1969 il modulo lunare Eagle dell'Apollo 11 toccava il suolo lunare, dopo una fase di controllo manuale di Neil Armstrong per evitare alcune rocce, e con il carburante agli sgoccioli... Mancavano ancora più di sei ore al primo piede sulla Luna, che sarebbe avvenuto alle 21:56 (ora di Houston), ed alla frase ormai divenuta famosa: "È un piccolo passo per un uomo, ma un balzo da gigante per l'umanita"...

At 3:17:40 PM (Houston time) on July 20, 1969, the Apollo 11 Eagle lunar module landed on the lunar soil, after a manual control override by Neil Armstrong to avoid some rocks, and with the fuel almost running out... There were still more than six hours before the first foot set on the Moon, which would have happened at 9:56 PM (Houston time), and to the now-famous phrase: "That's a small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind"...
