La passeggiata sulla Luna degli astronauti durò poco più di due ore e trenta minuti. Il resto del tempo trascorso sul satellite, ventuno ore e trentasei minuti, lo passarono facendo verifiche, mangiando e riposando. Al momento di ripartire dovettero anche risolvere un problema: uno degli interruttori si era rotto... rimediò creativamente Aldrin infilando un pennarello che aveva con se nel buco rimasto...
E poi ripartirono per il rendez-vous con la navicella Columbia, rimasta in orbita lunare con Collins a bordo.
