Il lander InSight possiede uno strumento, una sonda di calore, disegnata per scavare un buco nella superficie fino alla profonditù di circa 5 metri e ricavarne informazioni sul sottosuolo marziano. Lo scorso febbraio la sonda ha incominciato a fare il suo lavoro, perforare il suolo, ma si è fermata dopo soli 30cm... ora gli scienziati sulla Terra devono capirne il motivo e un'operazione banale sul nostro pianeta (sollevare la struttura che sta intorno alla sonda per vedere qual è il problema) deve invece essere svolta con estrema cautela su Marte, tanto che saranno necessari alcuni giorni per completare l'operazione...
Il InSight lander has an instrument, a heat probe, designed to dig a hole in the surface to a depth of about 16 feet and get information about it from the Martian subsoil. Last February the probe started to do its job, to drill the soil, but it stopped after only 12 inches... now the scientists on Earth must understand the reason why and an operation that will be trivial on our planet (lift the structure that is around the probe to see what the problem is) must be carried out with extreme caution on Mars so that it will take some days to complete the operation...
