Clouds on the Cities

Un recente studio, basato sulle immagini satellitari di Londra e Parigi, ha mostrato che queste grandi città presentano più nubi nel pomeriggio e di sera rispetto alle aree rurali circostanti. Questo sembra strano, in quanto le città dovrebbero essere più secche a causa della minore vegetazione, ma si pensa che l'effetto sia dovuto al maggior calore trattenuto dagli edifici, e rilasciato verso il tramonto, che creerebbe turbolenze nell'aria con conseguante formazione di nubi...

A recent study, based on satellite images of London and Paris, showed that these large cities are more cloudy in the afternoon and in the evening compared to the surrounding rural areas. This seems strange, as cities should be drier due to less vegetation, but it is thought that the effect is due to the greater heat retained by the buildings, and released towards sunset, which would create turbulence in the air with consequent formation of clouds...
