Walking Again

In Svizzera un gruppo di ricercatori ha applicato degli elettrodi alla spina dorsale di tre uomini paralizzati dalla vita in giù, riuscendo grazie ad una stimolazione elettrica a farli camminare di nuovo.
Gli stimoli elettrici sembrano ricostruire i segnali che arrivano dal cervello e che nelle persone paralizzate non riescono a giungere ai muscoli, perché interrotti dove è avvenuta la rottura del midollo spinale.
Certo non è un processo rapido, ma nell'esperimento già dopo una settimana gli uomini riuscivano a camminare, e dopo 5 mesi erano in grado di controllare volontariamente i loro muscoli e camminare anche per un'ora...

In Switzerland a group of researchers applied electrodes to the spine of three men paralyzed from the waist down, succeeding thanks to an electrical stimulation to make them walk again.
The electrical stimuli seem to rebuild the signals that come from the brain and that in paralyzed people cannot reach the muscles, because they are interrupted where the spinal cord rupture occurred.
Of course, it is not a quick process, but in the experiment already after a week the men managed to walk, and after 5 months they were able to voluntarily control their muscles and walk even for an hour...
