La prossima settimana si terrà a Versailles, vicino a Parigi, la 26ª Conferenza Generale sui Pesi e Misure (General Conference on Weights and Measures (CGPM); durante questa conferenza verrà ridefinito lo standard utilizzato dal Sistema Internazionale (SI) per misurare la massa. Attualmente lo standard di definizione della massa è un cilindro di platino-iridio del peso esatto di un chilo, conservato all'International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) a Sèvres, che verrà modificato basandolo sulla costante di Planck, cioé su una costante fisica. Questa direzione è già stata presa in passato da tre delle sette costanti fondamentali del SI (metro, secondo e candela), e sarà seguita, durante la stessa conferenza, anche dalle rimanenti tre (ampere, kelvin, and mole)...
Standard molto più precisi, ma anche molto più difficili da immaginare e misurare per la gente normale...
Next week the 26th General Conference on Weights and Measures (CGPM) will be held in Versailles, near Paris; during this conference, the standard used by the International System (SI) to measure mass will be redefined.
