Cellule umane in una matrice tridimensionale, della dimensione di una chiavetta USB... su queste cellule si possono fare esperimenti di risposta allo stress, farmacocinetica, mutazioni genetiche... insomma, molte investigazioni che, utilizzando i metodi classici, costerebbero molto di più o sarebbero impossibili da portare avanti.
Al momento questi chip sono utilizzati sulla ISS per studiare gli effetti della microgravità sulle cellule umane, come modello per studiare i processi di evoluzione di alcune malattie, perché nello spazio alcune reazioni (per esempio la perdita di tessuto muscolare) assomigliano all'effetto di malattie legate all'invecchiamento, solo avvengono molto più velocemente...
