Columbus Map

Una mappa del mondo del 1491, probabilmente uguale a quella che utilizzò Colombo nel suo "buscar  el levante por el poniente", disegnata dal cartografo tedesco Henricus Martellus, è stata studiata con attenzione da un gruppo di ricercatori.
Questi l'hanno fotografata con luci a differente lunghezza d'onda, riuscendo così a rendere meglio definite le immagini e visibili molte scritte che erano sbiadite e che ci danno indicazioni sulle conoscenze, e le credenze, dell'epoca: per esempio che in Asia centrale vivono gli Ippopodi: uomini con piedi di cavallo...

A map of the world in 1491, probably a copy of the one that Columbus used in his "buscar  el levante por el poniente" (go to the west to reach the east), designed by the German cartographer Henricus Martellus, has been carefully studied by a group of researchers.
They photographed it with lights at different wavelengths, thus managing to improve the definition of the images and make visible many writings that were faded and that give us indications on the knowledge, and beliefs, of the era: for example that in Central Asia Hippopods live: men with horse feet...
