Pink Ice

I ghiacci della Groenlandia stanno diventando rosa; la causa? Un'alga rossa che ha cominciato a crescere sulle superfici ghiacciate, a causa dell'acqua disponibile per colpa del riscaldamento globale.
Il problema è che queste alghe scurendo il ghiaccio ne diminuiscono l'albedo, cioè la quantità di luce riflessa, aumentando ulteriormente la temperatura locale e quindi lo scioglimento del ghiaccio stesso... e il fenomeno non si osserva solo in Groenlandia...

The ice in Greenland is becoming pink; the cause? A red alga that began to grow on icy surfaces, due to the little water available beacuse of the global warming.
The problem is that these algae darken the ice and reduce the albedo, that is the amount of reflected light, further increasing the local temperature and therefore the melting of the ice itself... and the phenomenon is observed not only in Greenland...
