450 Million Seconds

Un gruppo di scienziati del National Institute of Standards and Technology degli Stati Uniti ha pubblicato un lavoro sulla rivista Nature Physics in cui descrive un esperimento durato 14 anni (o 450 milioni di secondi...): durante questo tempo gli scienziati hanno osservato 12 orologi atomici ticchettare...
L'esperimento era volto a dimostrare una delle leggi fondamentali della fisica, cioé che non c'è un tempo o un posto nell'universo diverso dagli altri...
In effetti il ticchettio degli orologi atomici non è cambiato minimamente durante questo periodo, mentre la Terra, con tutto il sistema solare, sfrecciava per l'universo con tutti noi a bordo: per cui al meglio delle nostre conoscenze, non ci sono state mai variazioni.
Ora il team vorrebbe ripetere l'esperimento con orologi ancora più precisi...

A group of scientists from the US National Institute of Standards and Technology published a paper in the journal Nature Physics describing a 14-year (or 450 million seconds...) experiment: during this time, scientists observed 12 atomic clocks ticking...
The experiment was aimed at demonstrating one of the fundamental laws of physics, i.e. that there is no time or place in the universe different from the others...
In fact, the ticking of the atomic clocks did not change at all during this period, while the Earth, with the whole Solar System, was rushing through the universe with all of us on board: so to the best of our knowledge, there have never been variations.
Now the team would like to repeat the experiment with even more precise watches...
