L'uomo rappresente lo 0,01% degli esseri viventi eppure, secondo una ricerca pubblicata su PNAS, dall'inizio della civilizzazione ha causato la scomparsa dell'83% delle forme di vita animali e del 50% delle forme di vita vegetali che erano presenti sul pianeta.
Sempre secondo questo studio, le piante sono gli organismi più presenti oggi sul pianeta, e rappresentano l'82% degli esseri viventi, seguite dai batteri, che rappresentano il 13%. Il rimanente 5% contiene tutto il resto... quindi l'uomo non è che una briciola della vita esistente sulla Terra, ma il suo impatto ha portato gli scienziati a valutare una nuova era: l'Antropocene...
