Il SULF (Superintense Ultrafast Laser Facility) è un superlaser messo a punto in Cina con una potenza di 5,3 PW (petawatt - 10¹⁵ watt); al momento è il laser più potente al mondo, ma diversi gruppi stanno progettandone di più potenti, fino a 100 PW.

Laser così potenti saranno in grado di "spezzare" elettroni e positroni dallo spazio vuoto, dimostrando in tal modo che la materia e l'energia sono intercambiabili, come previsto da Einstein a dalla sua famosa equazione E=mc²...
