Un ragazzo con una rara malattia genetica della pelle è stato sottoposto ad un trapianto con cui la sua epidermide è stata sostituita con pelle cresciuta in vitro da un pezzetto della sua a cui è stato sostituito il gene malato con uno sano.
Una terapia genica delocalizzata, in cui a partire da poco più di 1 centimetro quadrato di pelle è stato fatto crescere nuovo tessuto epidermico - quasi 1 metro quadrato - dopo aver modificato il gene "guasto".
Il trapianto ha richiesto quattro mesi di coma indotto per resistere al dolore...
A young boy with a rare genetic skin disease underwent a transplant with which his skin was replaced with skin grown in vitro from a small piece of his own into which the defective gene was replaced with a healthy one.
A delocalized gene therapy, in which starting from just over half a square inch of skin, new epidermal tissue was grown - almost 9 square feet - after modifying the "failed" gene.
The transplant took four months of induced coma to resist the pain...
