Alcuni di questi sono nella cosiddetta "zona abitabile", cioè la zona dove è possibile che esista acqua allo stato liquido sulla superficie del pianeta. Ma quanti sono realmente abitabili?
Gli scienziati della NASA stanno cercando di rispondere a questa domanda osservando... la Terra. Infatti il nostro pianeta ha tutte le caratteristiche che permettono la vita: se trovassimo le medesime caratteristiche in un esopianeta, questo diverrebbe un buon candidato per essere un pianeta realmente abitabile...
Up to now, around 3,500 exoplanets have been discovered in about 2,700 stellar systems.
Some of these are in the so-called "habitable zone", that is, the area where it is possible to have liquid water on the surface of the planet. But how many are truly habitable?
NASA scientists are trying to answer this question by observing... Earth. In fact, our planet has all the characteristics that allow life: if we could find the same characteristics in an exoplanet, it would become a good candidate for being a truly habitable planet...
