La terapia genica è già nota da qualche anno, e sperimentata principalmente in vitro, e consiste nell'inserire nel corpo di un paziente con un gene malato alcune copie di un virus contenente il gene sano e sperare che si inserisca nel punto correto delle cellule corrette oppure prelevare alcune cellule, curarle in vitro e inserirle nuovamente nel corpo sperando che tornino a fare il loro lavoro...
Ora la speranza potrebbe diventare una certezza, con un metodo diverso: insieme al gene sano, nel paziente viene iniettata una proteina in grado di riconoscere un tratto specifico di DNA e inserire il gene in quel tratto. Un tiro al bersaglio con il bersaglio molto ben inquadrato!
