Una stella molto più grande del sole muore in una supernova... o no?
Un team internazionale di astronomi ha individuato un'esplosione di supernova, denominata iPTF14hls, che non solo è durata più di 600 giorni, contro i 100-130 normali, ma che è avvenuta nella stessa posizione di un'altra avvenuta nel 1954, come se la medesima stella fosse esplosa due volte!
Gli scienziati sono convinti che sia la stessa stella, ma non sono ancora riusciti a trovare una teoria che possa spiegare il fenomeno, che hanno chiamato “pulsational-pair instability supernova (supernova con instabilità pulsionale di coppia)” o stella zombi...

A team of international astronomers found a supernova explosion called iPTF14hls, which not only lasted more than 600 days, against the "standard" 100-130 but occurred in the same position as another one in 1954 as if the same star exploded twice!
Scientists are convinced that it is the same star but have not yet managed to find a theory that can explain the phenomenon, which they called "pulsational-pair instability supernova" or zombie star...
