La fotosintesi è il processo biochimico che trasforma l'anidride carbonica in ossigeno (semplificando molto...).
Purtroppo però non è possibile osservarne i meccanismi molecolari mentre avvengono, perché le fasi di preparazione dei campioni "fissano" le cellule e interrompono i processi in atto. Almeno fino ad oggi.
Infatti scienziati dello SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory sono riusciti, utilizzando un laser verde per illuminare i complessi proteici in soluzione e un laser a raggi X per catturare immagini, a fotografare le reazioni con scatti della durata di 40 femtosecondi... ed hanno incominciato a capire...
