La NASA si sta preparando a lanciare nei prossimi mesi sei satelliti di nuova generazione: satelliti piccoli e leggeri, prodotti con costi contenuti.
Questi satelliti potranno sfruttare "passaggi" da altre missioni, diminuendo anche il costo della messa in orbita, e si occuperanno di varie cose: misurare l'energia della parte alta dell'atmosfera, per comprendere meglio l'effetto serra, studiare più approfonditamente le nuvole e le tempeste, permettere delle previsioni meteorologiche più precise.
Se avranno successo, apriranno la strada per una nuova generazione di satelliti, che, forse, produrranno meno "rifiuti" spaziali...
NASA is getting ready to launch in the next six months a new generation of satellites: small, lightweight satellites, built with low costs.
These satellites will be able to take advantage of "lifts" from other missions, also decreasing the cost of placing in orbit, and will take care of various things: measure the energy of the upper atmosphere, to better understand the greenhouse effect, look closely at clouds and storms, allow more precise weather forecasts. If successful, they will pave the way for a new generation of satellites, which, perhaps, will produce less space "wastes"...
