La prima missione interstellare sarà compiuta da... una "starchip": un piccolo robot che viaggerà con una grande vela spaziale, spinto dai venti solari e da un robusto raggio laser generato sulla terra.
In queste condizioni si pensa che la "starchip" possa raggiungere Alpha Centauri, la stella a noi più vicina, distante 4 anni luce, in circa 20 anni e rimandare delle immagini alla Terra che, viaggiando alla velocità della luce, impiegherebbero 4 anni per arrivare a noi. Totale 24 anni, più la preparazione, e quindi potremmo avere le prime immagini di Alpha Centauri verso il 2075...

Under these conditions it is thought that the "StarChip" could reach Alpha Centauri, the star closest to us, which is 4 light years away, in about 20 years and send back images to Earth that, travelling at the speed of light, will get to us after 4 additional years. 24 years in total, plus preparation, so we could have the first Alpha Centauri pictures around 2075...
