A Bang on the Moon

Grazie al GRAIL (Gravity Recovery and Interior Laboratory) della NASA, gli scienziati hanno potuto studiare meglio il Mare Orientale, un avvallamento largo 930 km con un bacino centrale circondato da tre anelli rugosi, come un bersaglio. Si pensava che fosse un enorme punto d'impatto di un meteorite, ma si è scoperto che il bacino originale e molto più "piccolo"... solamente da 320 a 460 km...

Thanks to NASA's GRAIL (Gravity Recovery and Interior Laboratory), scientists were able to better understand the Mare Orientale, a valley 930 km wide with a central basin surrounded by three wrinkled rings, like a bullseye. It was tough to be a huge point of impact of a asteroid, but it it turned out that the original basin is much "smaller"... just between 320 and 460 km...
