La Natura non fa mai niente per caso... e non spreca risorse. Per questo è strano che così tanta parte del DNA di quasi tutti gli organismi superiori sia non-codificante (junk DNA o DNA spazzatura di cui sono inframezzati i geni). Di alcuni tratti si sa già da molto tempo che sono regioni di regolazione, ma recenti studi suggeriscono che altre sequenze possano giocare un ruolo importante nello sviluppo anatomico dell'organismo, addirittura regolando la quantità di costole...

Nature never does anything by accident... and it does not waste resources. So it is strange that so much of the DNA of nearly all higher organisms is noncoding (junk DNA that is interspersed between genes). It is known for a long time already that some stretches are regulating regions, but recent studies suggest that other sequences may play an important role in the anatomical development of the organism, regulating the amount of ribs indeed...
