The Frontier Fields è un programma del telescopio spaziale Hubble, cominciato nel 2013, com lo scopo di conoscere le galassie più lontane da noi. Ispirato dalla serie Star Trek, il programma ha permesso di estendere moltissimo le nostre conoscenze dell'universo; basti pensare che, quando nacque Star Trek, nel 1966, il più grosso telescopio esistente poteva arrivare fino a circa metà dell'universo, mentre ora, sfruttando anche il fenomeno noto come lente gravitazionale, possiamo spingerci molto più in là.
Infatti un paio di giorni fa è stata pubblicata un'immagine che mostra una galassia che dista da noi 14 miliardi di anni luce...
The Frontier Fields is a Hubble Space Telescope program, started in 2013, with the aim of knowing the galaxies most far away from us. Inspired by the Star Trek series, the program helped to greatly extend our knowledge of the universe; just think that when Star Trek was first broadcasted, in 1966, the largest existing telescope could reach up to about half of the universe, and now, also exploiting the phenomenon known as gravitational lensing, we can go much further.
In fact a few days ago a picture was published, showing a galaxy that is 14 billion light years away from us...
