Creating a Synthetic Human Genome

Un gruppo di 150 scienziati si è riunito alla Harvard Medical School in Boston per discutere della possibilità di sintetizzare in vitro un intero genoma umano (3 miliardi di basi): considerando che il tratto più lungo che si possa sintetizzare oggi è di 200 basi, il bersaglio è molto lontano... ma assolutamente affascinante.
Peccato che abbiano tenuto un meeting a porte chiuse e questo, nonostante la loro spiegazione, non è positivo: quando gli scienziati si chiudono su se stessi invece di aprirsi al pubblico c'è sempre un alone di sospetto...

A group of 150 scientists met at the Harvard Medical School in Boston to discuss the possibility to synthesize in vitro an entire human genome (3 billion bases): considering that the longest stretch that we can synthesize today is 200 bases, the target is very far... but utterly fascinating.
Too bad that the meeting was held behind closed doors and this is, despite their explanation, not good: when scientists are closed on themselves instead of opening to the public there is always an aura of suspicion...
