Le nuove scoperte nello spazio potrebbero venire effettuate con navi spaziali... a vela!
Infatti la NASA sta studiando nuovi materiali che potrebbero fungere da vele nello spazio, interagendo con i fotoni della luce solare per generare una spinta... e sarebbero anche più veloci degli attuali razzi a carburante, che, una volta esaurito il propellente, avanzano solo per forza d'inerzia e spinte gravitazionali. Infatti la luce solare c'è in tutto il sistema.
Più avanti si potrebbe anche usare il vento solare, che è ancora più "forte" della luce, per aumentare ulteriormente la velocità raggiungibile dalle navicelle... che però dovrebbero essere piccole, per poter sfruttare la spinta adeguatamente.
La prima "caravella" spaziale dovrebbe salpare nel 2018!

In fact NASA is studying new materials that may act as sails in space, interacting with the photons of the solar light to generate a push ... and would also be faster than the current fuel rockets, which, once exhausted the propellant, advance only by inertia and gravitational forces. In fact there is sunlight throughout the Solar System.
Further on, one could also use the solar wind, which is even "stronger" then light, to further increase the speed reached by the spacecrafts... but they should be small, in order to exploit the momentum properly.
The first "space caravel" should set sail in 2018!!
