Com'è il tempo atmosferico nel nostro sistema solare? I venti e le tempeste solari generano maree di radiazioni elettromagnetiche che si propagano come tsunami di dimensioni inimmaginabili dal centro verso la periferia e, come gli tsunami, lentamente perdono di potenza e di intensità.
Guardare le onde espandersi ha un che di ipnotico, e pensare che il nostro pianeta è protetto solo da uno straterello di atmosfera ci fa riflettere su quanto questa atmosfera sia importante, e cosa potrebbe succedere là fuori...
Questo filmato mostra un modello ed è stato sviluppato dalla NASA per aiutare nella pianificazione della missione di New Horizons verso Plutone, un po' come qualcuno che, prima di un viaggio, si preoccupa del tempo che troverà a destinazione :-)
How is the weather like in our Solar System? Solar winds and solar storms generate electromagnetic radiations tides propagating like tsunamis of unbelievable size from the centre towards the periphery and, like tsunamis, slowly loose power and intensity.
Watching the waves spread is somehow mesmerizing, and thinking that our Planet is protected only by a thin layer of atmosphere makes us reflect on how this atmosphere is important, and what might happen out there...
This movie shows a model and was developed by NASA to help planning New Horizons mission to Pluto, a bit like someone who, before a journey, is concerned about the weather that he will find at destination :-)
