Il telescopio spaziale Hubble ci ha regalato un'altra incredibile immagine: si tratta della nebulosa bipolare "Twin Jet" (dei getti gemelli - dai due getti di materiale che eruttano da una delle due stelle centrali) o PN M2-9. La spettacolare immagine, che fa assomigliare la nebulosa ad una farfalla, è generata dall'approssimarsi della fine dei due astri centrali, che emettono nello spazio i loro strati esterni e li illuminano, generando l'effetto. Il materiale che esce dai due getti viaggia a circa 1.000.000 km orari: a quella velocità, si potrebbe fare il giro della Terra all'equatore in circa 2,5 minuti...
Spazio, ultima frontiera...
Hubble space telescope gifted us with yet another incredible image: It is the bipolar nebula "Twin Jet" (name coming from the two jets streaming out in space from one of the two central stars) o PN M2-9. The spectacular image, making the nebula look like a butterfly, is generated by the two central asters approaching their end and ejecting in space their outer layers and illuminating these jets, generating the effect. The material coming out from the two jets travels at approx. 620,000 miles per hour: at that speed, one can make a trip around the Earth at the Equator in around 2.5 minutes...
