Questa storia è incredibile: il materiale che compone più di un terzo del nostro pianeta fino a poco tempo fa non aveva un nome. Infatti è stabile solo ad una pressione che si trova almeno a quasi 700 chilometri sotto la superficie della Terra, quindi non c'era modo di analizzarlo.
Poi gli scienziati hanno pensato che potevano trovarlo sui meteoriti, sottoposti a pressioni estreme durante le collisioni con altri e esposti poi al freddo estremo dello spazio, ed hanno avuto fortuna... Il materiale è stato trovato ed analizzato, e chiamato bridgmanite...
This story is incredible: the material that makes up more than a third of our planet didn't have a name until a little time ago. In fact, it is stable only at pressures found at least about 700 kilometers under the Earth surface, so there was no way to analyze it.
Then scientists thought that they could find it on asteroids, subject to extreme pressures during collisions with other asteroids then to the frigid cold of space, and they were lucky... The material was found, analyzed, and named bridgmanite...
