Il vaiolo è stato dichiarato eradicato nel 1979 dall'OMS. In teoria ce ne sono solo alcuni campioni rimanenti, e solo nei laboratori del CDC ad Atlanta ed in Russia, a Novosibirsk.
Ma, poco tempo fa, ne sono state ritrovate durante un trasloco alcune fiale, probabilmente risalenti agli anni 50, in un laboratorio dell'FDA, ereditato dall'NIH nel 1972. Tutto sotto controllo, fortunatamente, nessun infettato ed il virus verrà distrutto sotto il controllo dell'OMS...

But, a little while ago, some vials of virus were found during a move, in an FDA lab inherited from NIH in 1972; the virus was probably from the fifties and was forgotten in a room used for storage. Everything under control, luckily, nobody infected and the virus will be destroyed under the control of WHO...
