Attention to the Eye...

La Squilla mantis, un crostaceo degli Stomatopodi comunemente chiamato canocchia o cicala di mare, ha un occhio particolare: infatti presenta dai 12 ai 16 tipi di fotorecettori (noi ne abbiamo tre...) e di questi 6 sono dedicati agli ultravioletti - che noi non vediamo.
A cosa servano ancora non si sa per certo; ci sono ipotesi, ma nessuna finora provata... comunque, una cosa è certa: la Natura non mantiene un sistema così complesso, se non è necessario...

The mantis shrimp, a crustacean member of the Stomatopoda order, has got a special eye: it has between 12 and 16 photoreceptor types (we do have only three...) and 6 of them are dedicated to ultraviolet light - that we do not see.
What is their purpose is not yet know for certain; there are hypotesis, but none proved until now... however, one thing is certain: Mather Nature doesn't maintain such complicated system, if not necessary...
