Scienziati dell'università del Texas sono riusciti a creare in laboratorio dei polmoni semi-artificiali.
Partendo da polmoni di persone decedute in seguito ad incidenti, ma troppo rovinati per essere trapiantati, sono riusciti a far crescere in vitro dei polmoni abbastanza simili a quelli veri. Sono ancora lontani da un risultato definitivo, secondo loro di almeno dodici anni, ma è comunque un grande risultato ed una grande speranza per chi aspetta un trapianto!
Scientists from University of Texas were able to create semi-artificial lungs in a lab.
They started with lungs from people deceased following an accident, but too compromised to be used in a real transplantation, and could grow in vitro lungs sufficiently similar to real ones. They are still far away from a final result, according to them at least another twelve years will be needed, but it is still a great result and a big hope for all the people waiting for a transplant!
