Il vulcano più grande del mondo - Tafu Massif - è stato scoperto a circa 1500 km a est del Giappone ed è circa 60 volte più vasto di quello che prima si pensava essere il più grande (il Mauna Loa alle Hawaii - 310.000 kmq contro 5.200 kmq). Ha circa 145 milioni di anni e si è spento alcun milioni di anni dopo essersi formato; poi è rimasto buono buono, nascosto sotto l'acqua nell'Oceano Pacifico...

The largest volcano on Earth - Tafu Massif - was discovered around 1000 miles east of Japan and it is around 60 times larger than the one previously thought to be the largest (Hawaii's Mauna Loa - 120,000 square miles vs. 2,000 square miles). It's around 145 million years old and became inactive within a few million years after it was formed; then it stayed quiet, hidden below the water in the Pacific Ocean...
Luckily it's not active :-)
