Un recente studio mostra come, in alcuni casi, cancri possano essere provocati non da mutazioni nel DNA, ma dal variare del numero di alcuni geni presenti.
Esistono infatti zone del genoma, dette CNV (Copy Number Variations), che dove esiste in natura una variazione del numero di copie; tale variazione è perfettamente compatibile con geni sani, ma se il numero di ripetizioni è troppo o troppo poco, può dare origine a situazioni patologiche, con insorgenza di tumori.

There are, in fact, some regions in the genome, identified as CNV (Copy Number Variations), where it exists, in nature, a variation of the copy number which is perfectly compatible with healthy genes, but if the number of repeats is too few or too many, it can generate pathological situations, and cause arising of cancer.
